USA Hockey finalized its women’s U-18 roster for the 2019 IIHF World Championships over the weekend in preparation for the eight-team tournament coming up in January. Among the 23-person roster were 14 Selects alumni that will travel to Japan to compete for Team USA.

Eight alumni were named among the top twelve forwards including Sydney Bard, Hannah Bilka, Katy Knoll, Abbey Murphy, Casey O’Brien, Clara Van Wieren, Makenna Webster and Kiara Zanon. Six of the eight defensemen to make the squad also had ties to the Selects program including Lauren Bernard, Hadley Hartmetz, Caroline Harvey, Kate Monihan, Maggie Nicholson and Haley Winn.

Four of those mentioned (Bernard, Harvey, Winn and Zanon) are playing the 2018-19 winter season with the Selects Academy at Bishop Kearney and all 14 have already made Division-I commitments to play college hockey in their futures.

The U-18 IIHF World Championships get underway January 6th in Obihiro, Japan, where Team USA will battle teams from Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Japan, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland. The U.S. has played in the championship game in each of the past 11 years, and will look to win a fifth consecutive gold medal.
