Our Selects program has proved to be one of the most successful avenues for young hockey players to improve their skills, compete at the highest level and further their playing careers while offering world-class experiences to the athletes and their families. Countless Selects alumni have gone on to accomplish great feats both on and off the ice, and with our new Selects Spotlight, we look to promote those players and their success stories.
A regular in our Selects summer camps over the past few years, Lauren Glaser joined our ‘05 East Coast Selects for the first time in 2018. This spring, Glaser made the trip to Europe for the World Selects Invitational in the Mont Blanc region of France. There, she led ECS in scoring with three goals and seven points and was named Outstanding Forward at the WSI. Glaser helped ECS advance through the tournament with a 6-1-0 record before falling in the championship game 2-1, to our West Coast Selects team in a unique Selects vs. Selects showdown.
Now, Glaser sets her sights on prep school where she will play for The Rivers School next season.
“I look forward to playing hockey in prep school and then earn a spot on a college team like Boston College, Harvard or Wisconsin,” she said. “I would like to earn spots on national teams and ultimately earn a spot on a U.S. Olympic team.”
Glaser has high expectations, thanks in large part to one of her mentors that she connected with through Selects camps.
“Becca Gilmore is my biggest hockey influence,” Glaser said. “She was my first Selects counselor three years ago and she still coaches me today. She helps me with everything about the game and sometimes it’s not about the skills that I show, but the skills in my head.”
A successful Selects alum in her own right, Gilmore scored 35 points in 31 games as a freshman at Harvard University and has played on USA Hockey’s U-18 World Junior Championship Team.
The connection between Glaser and Gilmore is a great example of our Selects hockey network and connecting past players with present. With a family atmosphere, the hope is for not just Selects teammates to develop friendships but for relationships like Glaser and Gilmore’s to be forged between different segments of the Selects age groups, passing down teaching points and advice to the younger players coming up.
