Our Selects program has proved to be one of the most successful avenues for young hockey players to improve their skills, compete at the highest level and further their playing careers while offering world-class experiences to the athletes and their families. Countless Selects alumni have gone on to accomplish great feats both on and off the ice, and with our new Selects Spotlight, we look to promote those players and their success stories.
A member of our ‘03 West Coast Selects-Grey team that competed at this year’s World Selects Invitational in Philadelphia, forward Jack Silich and his young hockey career are off to a promising start.
In December of 2017, Silich announced he had verbally committed to Quinnipiac University for the 2022-23 season, becoming one-of-three players from the WCS-Grey team (Matthew Argentina to Notre Dame and Sean Behrens to Univ. of Denver) to earn a Division-I commitment thus far.
With three D-I commits on the roster, WCS-Grey went 3-1-1 in pool play at the U-15 World Selects Invitational before being eliminated by eventual tournament champion, East Coast Selects-O. Silich scored two goals in six games at the tournament, including one on the power play and another that would tie the game late against ECS-O.
His hockey future may be starting to take shape with Quinnipiac down the road, but Silich won’t allow himself to get complacent.
“I want to continue to improve my overall game by working on my body strength and skating,” he said. “My long-term plan is to continue to play hockey at the highest level possible and continue to do well in school but my main goal over the next three years is to train hard off the ice and continue to work on all aspects of my game.”
The Illinois native plays for the Chicago Mission during the winter season and draws inspiration from a particular NHL players that Silich hopes to model his own game after.
“I love the type of player Jamie Benn is,” Silich said. “He is strong, offensively dynamic, persistent, has a great shot and he still manages to be a humble, down-to-earth, nice person even with his tremendous success.”
