Our Selects program has proved to be one of the most successful avenues for young hockey players to improve their skills, compete at the highest level and further their playing careers while offering world-class experiences to the athletes and their families. Countless Selects alumni have gone on to accomplish great feats both on and off the ice, and with our new Selects Spotlight, we look to promote those players and their success stories.

On June 26th, the Selects Academy at Bishop Kearney announced that Nova Scotia native Avi Adam would be joining the program for the 2018-19 season. A forward that possesses great vision, a tough mindset and a strong desire to compete on the ice and in the gym, Adam have been highly active with our ECS-Q team over the past three seasons.

In 2017, Adam began her Selects experience by travelling to France for the Mont Blanc World Selects Invitational, a memory that has left an impression.

“My favorite part about being in France with Selects was travelling on the gondola to the top of Mont Blanc,” she said. “Playing all of our games in Chamonix and in Courmayeur was an amazing experience.”

Adam’s European trip helped establish many friendships through hockey with girls from across North America. While the Selects spring season may be short and geography makes maintaining friendships with new teammates a challenge, Adam said technology definitely helps keep in touch when girls return to their winter teams.

“I definitely stay in touch with my teammates,” she said. “My friends and I are always in touch and talking about school and asking each other what events we will be at throughout the season. I keep in contact with them on social media and on iMessage.”

Enrolled at Bishop Kearney in Rochester, New York, and set to join our Selects Academy, Adam leaves home at 14-years-old in pursuit of academic and athletic goals. Drawing inspiration from many women on the Canadian Olympic team, Adam stays motivated throughout the process.

“After high school, I hope to go to college and play D-1 hockey,” she said. “My dream since I was a kid has been to go to the Olympics with Team Canada.”
