Confirmed Instructors

Jim Bedard -  current Dallas Stars Director of Goalie Development & Scouting; former Detroit Red Wings Goaltender Coach

Jim Bedard spent 18 seasons as the Detroit Red Wings Goaltending Coach. In his position, Bedard worked with all goaltenders in the Red Wings' system, splitting time between Detroit and Grand Rapids as well as traveling to work with Detroit goaltenders throughout the minor leagues. In those years, he has worked with many of the world’s best goaltenders including Dominic Hasek, Curtis Joseph, and Chris Osgood and has 3 Stanley Cup Championships during his tenure. Jim Bedard was a former player of the Washington Capitals whom he was drafted by in the 1976 Entry Draft (6th choice, 91st overall).

He played for the Capitals' organization for a total of five years, two of which were spent at the NHL level. Following his days with Washington's organization, Bedard traveled to Europe to play for TPS in Turku, Finland for 14 seasons. At the conclusion of his playing days in 1994, Bedard began his coaching career working with goalies in the Ontario Hockey League. He got his start with the Niagara Falls Thunder and then became an assistant coach for the Erie Otters. In addition, he served as a goaltending consultant for elite teams in Europe.

Bedard is the head coach of the Selects Hockey Elite Goalie school and personally runs each on-ice session.

Supervision & Safety

The student-to-staff ratio is approximately 4 to 1. There are 2-4 campers in each dorm room at University of Buffalo (depending on the size of the room). There are 2 campers in each dorm room at Niagara University. ALL camp coaches, counselors, & Coordinators board in the University dorms (where the players are), providing 24 hour supervision. Lastly, there is a Hall Monitor for the dorm facilities for additional supervision.

Rooming Request

Please note that Rooming Requests will NOT be accepted. There are two reasons for this:

  1. Our coaching staff has specifically requested to try and room players unfamiliar with each other as this will help them to bond quicker and mature as well. These coaches, many from the NHL level who have children of their own, find a lot of value in this.
  2. Due to the volume of campers and these requests, it is just not possible to accommodate room requests.
