With the NCAA hockey season in full swing, lots of Selects alumni are gearing up for their respective collegiate campaigns across the country. Roughly 171 men as well as 252 women stemming from Selects, SHD and Selects Academy programs will compete for Division-I schools during the 2019-20 season, reaching 38-of-41 women’s teams and 52-of-60 men’s teams.
Defending 2019 national champion on the women’s side, the University of Wisconsin boasts an impressive 13 former Selects on its roster, including 2018 Patty Kazmeier Award recipient and junior transfer Daryl Watts (East Coast Selects). The uber-competitive Hockey East sports the most alumni of any women’s conference, with all 10 programs displaying multiple alumni, and Boston College and Northeastern boasting 14 apiece.
In men’s hockey, 16 of the top 20 teams currently ranked by USCHO have at least one former Selects player in the lineup. Blue bloods Boston College and Boston University are among the most popular with eight alumni each, making Hockey East the number one destination for Selects on the men’s side as well. In total, alumni originated from 10 different boys Selects teams and programs, including seven different countries — U.S., Canada, Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Slovakia and Czech — including 20 from the South Kent Selects Academy, 43 from the West Coast Selects, 38 from East Coast Selects – O and 33 from East Coast Selects – Q.
